If you trim an English yew back to the bare wood, will foilage subsequently grow on the bare wood?

I have two densiformia yews that are encroaching on the walkway to the entrance to our front door. My wife is after me to trim them back so there is adequate clearance. In order to do that I need to cut back to the bare wood. I have a concern if I do that, foilage won't grow on the wooden stems. I do seem to remember seeing yews cut back severely like that and new growth did appear from the bare wood. Is that the case with yews in general?

yes, yews will grow back within the year...it is arbs that will not grow back
Reply:Yes. Yew will usually grow back
Reply:Yes and no, it depends on the time of year and how far back it has been pruned.
